Letha Katherine Forsyth Sumpter was born October 25, 1922, in Waurika, Oklahoma, to J.W. Bill and Betty Long Phelps. She passed from this life Monday, August 4, 2008, in Comanche County Memorial Hospital at the age of eighty-five. She and A.L. Forsyth were married December 23, 1937, in Waurika, Oklahoma. She and Marvin Sumpter were married in Wichita Falls, Texas, May 17, 1975. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Waurika.

Survivor include: her two sons - Don Forsyth and his wife Erica of Waurika, OK, and Allan Forsyth and his wife Marie of Iowa Park, TX; two stepdaughters - Loretta and her husband Lynn Ewing, and Marlene Sevier, all of Texas; one sister Claudia Guy of Waurika, OK; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sumpter will be at 9:30 AM, Thursday, August 7, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Waurika with Rev. Jeff McLemore officiating. Burial will be in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home in Waurika. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 6:00 PM and Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Waurika.
