Winnie Suttle was born November 18, 1904, in Shannon, Texas. She
was the third of eight children born to Daniel W. and Bettie Suttle.
She passed from this life Wednesday, May 14, 2008, in Norman,
Oklahoma, at the age of one hundred three. Winnie grew up in Shannon
and attended school there and graduated from Bowie Commercial
College, Bowie, Texas, in 1922. In 1924, she moved to Waurika,
Oklahoma and worked for Harris & Suttle Market. She worked
in the County Clerk's office from 1926 to 2938. On March 1, 1928,
she began working as Abstractor for D.H. Stone, Waurika Abstract
Company. After the death of Mr. Stone, Winnie continued as Abstractor
for his son, Richard D. Stone, Jefferson County Abstract Company.
In May 2000, she was recognized by the Oklahoma Land Title Association
(OLTA) as the oldest active abstractor in Oklahoma. She was employed
by the Stone family for seventy-two years. She was a member of
the First Baptist Church of Waurika since 1926, and served as
General Secretary and Departmental Secretary for the Childrens
Department for many years. After retirement, she became a resident
of Norman, Oklahoma.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Ms Suttle will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 17, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Waurika. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery in Lawton at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 19, 2008, under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Memorial contributions may be made to Childrens Department, First Baptist Church, Waurika, Oklahoma, or to a favorite charity.
