William Cread Burger

William Cread Burger was born June 17, 1910, in Clovis, New Mexico, to Albert Cread and Vinie Miller Burger. Cread passed from this life June 27, 2001, in the Jefferson County Hospital in Waurika at the age of 91. He graduated from Waurika High School in 1930. He and Doris Wright were united in marriage December 25, 1932, in Ryan, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death April 11, 1982. He later married Dorothy Tyson on November 3, 1982. She preceded him in death August 1, 1994. Cread owned and operated Waurika Hatchery, later known has Burgers Farm and Ranch Store in Waurika, for over forty years. He was a member of the Waurika Chamber of Commerce, Waurika School Board, Rotary Club, City Council, Jefferson County Excise Board, Waurika Masonic Lodge, Waurika Dam Association Project, and served Waurika as Mayor. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Waurika. He enjoyed fishing in Canada and all sports. He was very proud of the 1951 State Championship Football Team.

Cread Burger is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law - Thelton Cread Bud and Martha Burger of Duncan, OK; one daughter and son-in-law May Nell and Kenneth Walker of Waurika, OK; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; two sisters - Lottie Park of Waurika, and Audra Dunlap of Comanche, OK; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 30, 2001, at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Waurika with Reed Montgomery and Noel Curington officiating. Burial was in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
