Norman Wayne Smith

Norman Wayne Smith, 87, was born in Byers, Texas, to Geddie and Ruby (VanPelt) Smith December 16, 1929. The family moved to the Claypool, Oklahoma area in 1941 where Wayne attended school and graduated in 1946. He departed this life October 4, 2017, to be with his Heavenly Father.
Wayne and Billy Merle (Griffin) were married April 19, 1952, in the Chapel of the Methodist Church in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Out of this marriage of sixty-five years came two sons Jerry Wayne and Stephen Carl. Wayne farmed for a few years then worked for Halliburton from March of 1952 to May of 1979. The following year he started work for the Forestry Service and Corps of Engineers at the Waurika Lake until he retired in July of 1992. He was a charter member of the Waurika Jaycees, which started the Waurika Rattlesnake Hunt. He was a member of the Early Booster Club. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waurika from 1953 until his death and an active member of the Methodist Men's Group. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, woodworking and reading.
Wayne is survived by his wife –Billy, two sons -Jerry Smith and wife Mondy, and Steve Smith, and three grandchildren - Denton, Micah, and Austin Smith.
Services for Wayne will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 6, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Waurika with burial in the Grady Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dennis Morris, Jim Howard, Johnny Giffin, Ray Robnett, Gary Carter, Jon G. Griffin, Jim Griffin, and Mike Gaines.
