Virgil Wood, Jr.

Virgil Wood, Jr. was born June 29, 1937, to Mary and Virgil Wood Sr., in Waurika, Oklahoma. He passed from this life Saturday, September 7, 2002, in the Jefferson County Hospital at the age of sixty-five. Virgil and Vickie Chandler were married June 2, 1979, in Henrietta, Texas. The owned and operated Wood Nursing Home and Convalescent Center. He was the nursing home administrator until 1992. Virgil served his country in the United States Army. He was a thirty-second degree Mason and a member of the Duncan Episcopal Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Vickie Wood, of the home in Waurika, OK; two sons - John Wood of Waurika, OK, and Craig Chandler of Duncan Oklahoma; three daughters - Mary Kunkle of Kansas City, KS, Carolyn Clark of Waurika, OK, and Tonya Craig of Waurika, OK; one brother - James Wood of Wichita Falls, TX; one aunt, Lorene Wood of Waurika, OK; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil, Sr, and Mary, two sons, James Leland and Virgil Wood II, his stepmother Edna, one brother, and one sister.

Funeral services for Mr. Wood were at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 10, 2002, at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika with Noel Curington officiating. Burial was in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
