Vernon Norman Barnes

Vernon Norman Barnes was born February 28, 1924, in Thackerville, Oklahoma to Tommy and Dovie Davenport Smith Barnes. Vernon passed from this life Sunday, May 21, 2006, at the Jefferson County Hospital at the age of eighty-two. Vernon and Moleta Carmichael were married in Ft. Worth, Texas July 15, 1989. Vernon served his country in the United States Army Air Corp in WWII. He retired from National Service Industries, Tandy Corporation, and The Waurika Sheriff’s Department. Vernon was Past Master of Masonic Lodge #148, District Deputy Grand Master for the state of Texas, a member of the Shriners, Scottish Rite, VFW, American Legion, and past President of the Waurika Lions Club.

He is survived by: his wife Moleta of the home in Waurika; one son - Norman C. Barnes and his wife Dixie of Ft. Worth, TX; three stepsons - Charles Lowe of WA, Roy Lowe of LA, and Richard Lowe of OH; two stepdaughters - Patty Minney and her husband Jacques of Waurika, OK, and Katie Creagle and her husband Randy of Lawton, OK; one sister - Patsy Guest of AK; ten grandchildren - Kristen Dyer and her husband Chris, Brandon Barnes, Stephanie Creagle, Melissa Creagle, Scott Minney, Randy Minney, Jamie Lowe, Stuart Lowe, Jennifer Lowe, and Nathan Lowe; and four great-grandchildren - Danielle Minney, Alexis Minney Dylan Creagle, and Gage Creagle.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday May 25, 2006, at the First Baptist Church in Waurika with Audie Dorrough officiating. Burial will be in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Waurika.
