Vera Vivian Bridges

Vera Vivian Bridges was born April 14, 1908, in Rush Springs, Oklahoma, to L.D. and Ella Mae Vickers, the second of two daughters. She passed from this life Wednesday, December 11, 2002, in Harris Methodist Hospital at the age of ninety-four. She was six months old when she moved to Hastings, Oklahoma. Her mother died when she was just a few months old. She was raised by her grandparents, J.R. and Susie Vickers at Hastings where she grew up and attended school. On December 3, 1925 she and Floyd Bridges were united in marriage in Walters, Oklahoma. They made their home on a farm south of Temple, Oklahoma. In 1926, the couple moved to Hastings after a stay of several years in Stephenville, Texas. The family farmed at Hastings for fifteen years. She was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church in Stephenville, and a past member of the Eastern Star in Hastings.

Survivors include: her husband, Floyd, of the home in Hastings, OK; two daughters - Mildred Taylor of Palestine, TX, and Frankie Pendleton of Stephenville, TX; one son, Eugene Bridges of Mt Ida, AR; one sister, Marie Rives of California; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and eighteen great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held for Mrs. Bridges at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 14, 2002, in the Hastings Cemetery with Ken Coleman officiating. Burial was in the Hastings Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika.
