Velena Harrileen Bernethy passed from this life March 15, 2004, at the age of seventy. She was born November 8, 1933, to Harry and Opal Elkins, in Butler, Oklahoma. She and Davy Bernethy were united in marriage July 2, 1954, in Littlefield, Texas. Mrs. Bernethy was a member of the Church of Christ. She was an accountant for the State Highway Department of New Mexico and for the Health Planning Commission of the State of Oklahoma.

Survivors include: her husband, Davy Lee Bernethy, of the home; two sons - Guy Willis Bernethy and his wife Sue Ann, and Bret Alan Bernethy and his wife Robbie Dean; one daughter - Donna Lee Bernethy and her husband Kenneth Lovelady; three brothers - Keith Elkins, Tommie Elkins, and Ghary Elkins; four blood-related grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harry Bernice Elkins and Opal Velena Elkins, and one brother, Rene Elkins.

Graveside services for Mrs. Bernethy were at 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 18, 2004, at the Waurika Cemetery with Noel Curington officiating. Burial was in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika.
