Virgil C. "Dutch" Helms
Virgil Cleo William Marvin "Dutch" Helms, 88, of Waurika, Oklahoma, passed from this life Sunday, February 14, 2016, at the Veterans' Center in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was born April 16, 1927, in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma, to William and Ella Jane (Hall) Helms. He was a farmer and a self-employed businessman. He was married to Vivian Keith on May 28, 1945, in Hollis, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a long time member of the Waurika Church of Christ before moving to Lawton and becoming a member of the Sullivan Village Church of Christ there. He was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed putting puzzles together and was called the "puzzle master", playing dominoes, and talking about cars but his greatest passion was talking about the Lord to everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian on August 2, 2004, his parents William and Ella Helms, two grandchildren - Amber Nicole Morgan and Jacob Sean Morgan, and his siblings - Edgar Helms, Grover Helms, Norma Earls, Lucille Bulman, Lewis "Dub" Helms, and Bill Helms.
Survivors include: his children - Gwen and her husband Richard Clark of Thornberry, TX, and Tammy Morgan of Waurika, OK; grandchildren - Sheila and her husband Jeff Posey of Joshua, TX, Sonya and her husband Gary Watkins of Pottsboro, TX, Chris Morgan of San Diego, CA, Tashina Morgan of Stillwater, OK, and Dylan Morgan of Norman, OK; great-grandchildren - Destiny, Blake, Zachary, Haylee, Elijah and Skylar; and great-great-grandchildren - Maddison and Lilly Ann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at the Sullivan Village Church of Christ in Lawton with burial to follow in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika with the family receiving visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Gary Watkins, Zachary Watkins, Jeff Posey, Blake Posey, Mark Dreher, and Roger Bulman.
