Troy Leonard Mitchell

Troy Leonard Mitchell passed away peacefully Friday, July 29, 2011 at his home with his loving family by his side.

A Military Funeral Service has been scheduled for 10:00AM, Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika with Rev. Jeff McLemore officiating. Burial will follow at the Waurika Cemetery after the procession down Main street of Waurika as his final good bye to friends and a town he loved to call home. Viewing will be Monday from noon - 8PM and Tuesday, from 9AM-8PM with family receiving visitors from 6-8PM. Boots and jeans are welcome as we celebrate the life of our wonderful Pop. Memorials may be made to the Jefferson County Hospital.

Troy was born April 28, 1927 in Ryan, Oklahoma to Willie Thelma and Roy Leonard Mitchell. He married Norma Sue "Pug" Stone on November 11, 1955 in Emporia, Virginia, and together they raised three daughters. Troy served his country in the United States Army from 1946-1969. He served in Germany, Austria, Korea, and Viet Nam. He received many honors and medals during his military service of 21 years. He received the Presidential Unit Citation for service in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive in Viet Nam in 1968. He retired from the military in 1969 and drove an 18 wheeler from 1970-1992 to provide for his family. Troy and Norma moved to Waurika in 1989 and raised miniature goats and miniature horses. Life for them was peaceful and happy on "The Hill". Troy brought smiles and laughter to all he met. He was an active member of the Waurika VFW until it closed.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Willie Thelma Mitchell and his wife and best friend Norma Sue Mitchell in 2008.
Survivors include his children - Thelma Lorraine Lasseter of Wichita Falls, TX., Brenda Gale Wertz of Davidsville, PA., and Linda Sue Mitchell of Wichita Falls, TX., three sisters - Tonabel Fuller of Ryan, OK. Lily Faye Crow of Wichita Falls, TX., and Virginia Cottrell of Durant, OK., six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

he family would like to thank Dr. Hinshaw and pharmacist Biff Eck, Frank and Glenn and the many people of Waurika who helped and cared for Mama and Daddy during the tough days. His family will always carry you in our hearts and prayers.
