Millard Toad Anderson

On July 26, 2010, Millard “Toad” Anderson lost his brief but valiant fight with lung cancer. Both of his children were at his bedside when he passed away in the comfort of his home.

Toad was born on May 14, 1928 to Joe and Mae (Leavelle) Anderson and grew up in Terral, Oklahoma where he met and married the love of his life, Hattie Dale Baker on January 11, 1951. Shortly after their marriage, Uncle Sam called Toad to serve in the military during the period of the Korean Conflict. He returned to Terral after an Honorable Discharge and began what would turn into a many faceted business career. His first endeavor was Anderson Oil but not satisfied with that, went into the cotton ginning business, followed by the Terral Grain Elevators where he successfully partnered with Lynn Weatherly for many years. Never satisfied with having just one project going, Toad also had the Toad Anderson Trucking business where he used his trucks to transport the watermelons and cantaloupes he grew and brokered to the Northern states.

In 1971, the family moved to Waurika, Oklahoma and although Toad still remained very active in the agricultural field he decided he should slow down some settling into wheat farming and the occasional golf game he thoroughly enjoyed. Toad and Hattie Dale could often be found playing in golf scrambles or traveling to Las Vegas or Bossier City when they weren’t attending functions their children and grandchildren were involved in. Toad lived for his family and took great pleasure and pride in being able to provide for them. Toad came to know God late in life and even though he was not baptized until he was in his 70’s, his life and many generous acts reflected his faith and love of God.

Toad is survived by his wife, Hattie Dale; his son Mark Lee and daughter in law, Marci; his daughter, Cherese Bagwell and two grandchildren Joshua Bagwell and Ginny Anderson; his brother Dorman Anderson of Wichita Falls, Texas and the many friends to numerous to mention.
