Teresa Denine (Prestwich) Jones
Teresa Denine Prestwich Jones, born April 3rd, 1964 passed from this life on October 15, 2016. Born amidst the "April 3rd Tornado" in Wichita Falls, Texas; it was only befitting nature that her entire life was whirlwind of activity that in the end concluded quiet and peacefully. She was an ambitious woman; hyper driven to succeed at anything she took upon herself to accomplish. This was evident in high school, nursing studies, college, her career and as a wife and mother. Thus it was no surprise to anyone who knew her that she was the recipient of numerous awards throughout her lifetime, including awards in high school, college, and nursing. She received the Guardian Angel Award from Duncan Regional Hospital several times. She was not satisfied just being ambitious, she also encouraged the same ambition in others, be they family members, friends, co-workers or patients. You could not sit idle around Teresa. You had to be up, moving, accomplishing or at least trying or she would not let you rest.
She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas was raised in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and finally Sugden, Oklahoma. She graduated High School from Ryan, Oklahoma in 1982; attended college at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, Nursing at Red River Vocational School, Cameron University and Murray State College.
She worked as a nursing aide, an LPN and finally as an RN. Her career began at the Ryan Nursing Home when she was just 15 years old and dedicated her entire life to caring for others. She also worked at Duncan Regional Hospital, Faith Hospice Service and Mays Home Health Services; in total 37 years of dedication to helping those less fortunate or in need.
While attending college at USAO in Chickasha, Oklahoma in 1982, she met Michael Gene Jones and on February 23rd, 1990 they were married and settled in Duncan, Oklahoma. Together they raised three sons; Michael Glenn, Eric Arby and Scott Mitchell Jones.
She passed from this life on the evening of October 15, 2016 following an abrupt battle with cancer, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her father Chet Prestwich and her son Eric. She is survived by her husband of Michael; son Glenn and wife Kelli Jo and one grand-daughter Zaileigh of Duncan; son Scott of the home; her mother Darlene Canon also of the home; one brother Jeff Prestwich and wife Carla of Sugden; two sisters Cindy Cosme and husband Kelly of Ryan and Kristen Prestwich and son Tanner of Duncan She also leaves behind a multitude of additional family, friends, co-workers and caregivers who will never forget her bright smile, cheerful attitude, caring nature and infectious ambition and charisma that even in death drives those who knew her onward.
Graveside services for Mrs. Jones will be at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at the Sugden Cemetery in Sugden, Oklahoma, with Rev. Bob Waitman officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. The family asks in lieu of flowers well-wishers make a donation to either the American Cancer Society or the J.D. McCarty Center for developmentally disabled children in Norman, Oklahoma. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika.
