Sylvia Babe Strange

Sylvia (Mayes) Strange, Babe, was born on New Years Day, January 1, 1929, to John Madison and Viola (Caldwell) Mayes in Comanche Hospital, Comanche Oklahoma, and passed from this life Saturday, August 4, 2001, at her home in Duncan, Oklahoma, at the age of 72.

Sylvia was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Comanche, Eastern Star, a charter member of the Rebekkah Lodge and Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority of Comanche, and was an advanced class amateur radio operator making scores of friends across the U.S. and all over the world. She and Doug Strange were united in marriage March 31, 1947, in Henrietta, TX. Sylvia worked at their family-owned business (Doug Strange Furniture) for many years.

She is survived: by her beloved husband of fifty-three years, Doug, of the home, in Duncan, OK; two sons, Larry Jon Mayes and his wife, Virginia, of Arlington, TX and Doug W. Strange of Tyler, TX; two daughters, Charryl Cox of Comanche, OK, and Teresa Fritts and her husband Tim of Duncan, OK; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bill G. Mayes.

Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Comanche, OK, Tuesday, August 7, 2001, at 4:00 PM with Rev. Bill D. Mayes, nephew, officiating. Burial was in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Comanche.

Bearers will be her grandsons, Corey Andrews, Chad Strange, Casey Andrews, Cameron Strange, Kevin Mayes, Brendhan Fritts, and Cooper Strange.In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Chisholm Trail Hospice of Duncan.
