Sammy Junior Cockrell

Sammy Junior Cockrell was born December 20, 1933, at Waurika, Oklahoma, to Sylvester and Daisy Cockrell and passed from this life August 7, 2004, at Waurika, at the age of seventy. He owned and operated Sam's Grocery and Market until 1976. He raised cattle and was a truck driver for North American Trucking until his retirement. Sammy and Kay Joan Riley were united in marriage January 2, 1953, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They were blessed with four children.

Sammy is survived by his wife Kay of the home in Waurika, OK; one son Jimmy Cockrell of Lawton, OK; three daughters, Sandra Cockrell of Bedfore, TX, Carole Cockrell of Waurika, OK, and Linda Cockrell of Ft. Worth, TX; one sister Ruby Jean Petty of Webb City, MO; five grandchildren - Arnold Applegate, Sammy Dowdy, David Applegate, Kay Shanda Cockrell, and Chris Cockrell; and three great-grandchildren - Samuel Dowdy, Riley Cronin, and Carson Cronin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Lt. Col. Elroy M. Cockrell.

Funeral services for Mr. Cockrell were held Thursday, August 12,2 004, at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika with Audie Dorough officiating. Burial was in the Addington Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika.
