Roe Johnson
Lifetime resident of the Irving Community of Jefferson County, Oklahoma, Roe Johnson, died Saturday, January 27, 2018 in his home at the age of 97 years. He was born June 22, 1920, to Tom and Mary Johnson. He attended the Irving Consolidated Schools, where he graduated in 1939. He took over the family farming and ranching operation, the JJ Ranch, which became his lifelong occupation.
Roe and Billie Jean Fuller were married February 24, 1945. Their marriage lasted 72 years and 11 months. Roe and Billie continued to farm, where they raised four children. They taught them to work hard and love the Lord by reading the Bible daily and taking them regularly to the Irving Baptist Church. Roe and Billie supported their children in their school sports, music, and 4-H activities. He promoted honesty, integrity, reassurance, and a strong work ethic to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren -by whom he will be sorely missed.
Survivors include his wife Billie, their children: Tom Johnson and wife Cheri, Don Johnson and wife Gayle, Peggy Fontaine Bates and husband Mike, Sheila Traynham and husband Joe. Grandchildren: Jeffrey Johnson, Jonathan Johnson, Jared Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Stacy Traynham Merritt, Jodi Traynham Johnson, Jennifer Johnson Wade, Jeremiah Johnson and Conrad Fontaine. Great-Grandchildren: Jared R. Johnson, Jr., Megan Wade, Hannah Wade, Lauren Wade, Jenna Wade, Whitney Wade, Rachel Watson, Max Merritt, Sammy Merritt Annie Merritt, Braden Johnson, Abb'e Johnson, Josiah Johnson, Sawyer Johnson, Libby Johnson, Kennedy Johnson, Roe Johnson and Leah Johnson. Special nieces and nephews: Silvia Johnson Witty, Sherry Kafer Elkins and Carl Enos and Ray Enos.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Opal Kafer Duncan, Ellen Enos and Paul Johnson.
Roe enjoyed visiting with family and friends, telling endless stories from the past, riding in the pasture looking at his cows with his dog, Hank, and watching news and westerns on TV. In earlier days he enjoyed hunting quail and always just being out of doors. Roe will be remembered and missed by his many family members and friends, but they can be comforted by the fact that he is catching up on old times with all of those who have gone before, and is basking in the Glory of God.
A celebration of his life will be at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at the Irving Baptist Church with Bro. Billy Rhone officiating. Grandchildren will serve as Pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Ryan. Memorial gifts may be made to the Irving Baptist Church, 17017 N 2770 Rd., Ryan, OK 73565. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.dudleyfuneralhomes.com.
