Robert E. Hauger

Robert Eugene Hauger was born June 28, 1925, in Ramona, Oklahoma, to Virgil H. and Martha T. Hauger. From complications of diabetes he passed away September 26, 2014, in Waurika, Oklahoma.
He grew up in Chickasha, Oklahoma and in 1943 joined the U. S. Navy, proudly serving for twenty years. During his service in WWII, the Korean Conflict and the beginning of the Vietnam War, he rceived eight medals and commendations which include a Purple Heart, Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Navy Occupational Medal WWII, WWII Victory medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal WWII, American Campaign medal WWII, and the American Defense medal WWII.
The importance of supporting the military and honoring the flag was instilled in his family. Both he and his son served a portion of their military careers at the same time in California. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a guard for the Wells Fargo Bank in California and held the offce of Sheriff in Colorado. In 1990, he moved back to Chickasha and worked at Lawson's Pawn Shop for several years.
At the Norman Oklahoma Stake Robert was ordained to the office of High Priest in the Melchizedek priesthood in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints whose priesthood office is High Priest, was a member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans), and was a 32nd Degree Mason, Palo Alto - Roller Lodge #346. Robert was ornery, independent and full of life, known for giving his opinion, whether you wanted it or not. Owning several vehicles was the norm and motorcycles gave him many years of enjoyment. Being a gun enthusiast, he had an impressive gun collection. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and he enjoyed working with missionaries and sharing his beliefs with others.
Robert was preceded in death by both his parents, Virgil H. and Martha T. Hauger, former spouses Irmo Jo Burmeister and Mary Taylor, infant daughter Linda Susan Hauger, and son Robert J. Hauger.
He is survived by one daughter Jean and Earl Slaven of Ark City, KS, one step-daughter Donna Taylor of San Francisco, CA, one daughter-in-law Frieda J. Hauger of Chickasha, OK, two granddaughters Sherry and Joe McNaught of Edmond, OK, and Candice J. and Scott Bailey of Chickasha, OK, and two great-grandsons Zachary McNaught and Hayden Bailey.
In remembrance of Robert Hauger, the next time you see a veteran or an active service member tell them "Thanks for my freedom." Memorial donations may be made to the general missionary fund with the Mormon Church. As requested by Mr. Hauger, his wishes expressed to Dudley Funeral Home in Waurika were for cremation and no service.
