Reynolds Cantrell, Jr.
Reynolds Cantrell, Jr., born December 2, 1935, in Healdton, Oklahoma, to
Reynolds and Joyce Wilkerson Cantrell, died December 19, 2008, at United
Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas, of complications from gastric
cancer.
Reynolds graduated from Healdton High School in 1953, attended the University
of Oklahoma and graduated from Central State College. He taught secondary
school science at Elmore City, Doyle, and Edmond, Oklahoma, for eleven years.
He married Lynda C. Burge in 1966. in 1969, they began a career with the
Department of Dependent Schools. He taught high school science in Japan for
five years and served as a guidance counselor for grades K-12 in Korea,
Okinawa, and Germany for twenty-one years. He retired in 1995, and returned
to Waurika, Oklahoma, where he and Lynda have resided for the past thirteen
years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Waurika.
Survivors include: his wife, Lynda, of the home in Waurika, OK; three sons -
Reynolds Cantrell IV and his wife Kristin of Oklahoma City, OK, David
Cantrell and his partner Glen Eyet of Tucson, AZ, and Bradley Cantrell and
his wife Susan of New Orleans, LA; one daughter - Laura and her husband Mark
Schroeder of Madison, WI; seven grandchildren - Hannah and David Cantrell,
Emerson and Felix Schroeder, Holly Rodriguez, and Kelly and Cory Beaver; and
three great-grandchildren - Kaylee Rodriguez, and Kinsey and Braxton Roberts.
A memorial service for Mr. Cantrell will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 3,
2009, at the First Christian Church in Waurika with Rev. Curtis Plant
officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church
Building Fund, the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes
Association, or a charity of your choice.
