James Franklin Pete Helloms died at his home in Ryan, Oklahoma, Monday morning, June 23, 2003, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy illness. Pete was born December 27, 1934, in Ryan, Oklahoma, one of eleven children born to Jim and Lovina Helloms. He and Martha Louise Williams were married on May 6, 1966, in Wichita Falls, Texas. To this union were born three children, Elmer Lee, Kathryn Louise, and James Edward. Mr. Helloms had two grandchildren, Kandas Elizabeth and Sherenda Lucille. All are of Ryan, Oklahoma.
Pete worked on farms in the Ryan area most of his life, as well as doing a number of other jobs including construction, ranching, and anything he was offered. At one time he was an employee of the Town of Ryan. Although he and his family lived in several places over the years, he always called Ryan his home.
Survivors include: his wife; his children and grandchildren; brothers - W.D. Davis of Ryan, OK, and Leroy Helloms of Sugden, OK; sisters - Elberta Peachy Maness of Waurika, OK, Ardelia Sally Roberts of Henrietta, TX, Freda Doyal of Waurika, OK, Lucille Lawson of Ryan, OK, Dora Green of Nocona, TX, Joanne Johnson of Ryan, OK, and Ruth Thomas of Sugden, OK. He will be missed by his many nephews, nieces, many family members and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Helloms were at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 26, 2003, at the United Methodist Church in Ryan with Rev. Steve Harshaw and Reb. Bob Waltman officiating. Burial was in the Ryan Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Ryan.
