On Wednesday, June 20, 2001,
long-time Ryan resident Perry Donald Reynolds passed on from this
life. The Reynolds family were Jefferson County pioneers, settling
in and around Ryan prior to statehood. P.D. graduated Ryan High
School in 1948, where he was active in sports, chorus, school
plays, and was the class president.
When the Korean War broke out he and several other young Ryan
men joined the U.S. Navy. He served as an airman directing flights
on the U.S.S. Kersarge. After completing his tour of duty he returned
to Ryan where he married Nelda Mitchell on March 29, 1954. He
retired from Halliburton Services in 1984 after thirty years of
service, where his title was Method Analyst. After retirement
he worked as a consultant for Halliburton including several years
as an instructor at the Red River Vocational Training Center.
Flop as he was known to his friends was a member of the
Ryan Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Kennie, one
brother, Doyle, and a sister, Jessie Lee.
He is survived by: his wife of forty-seven years; his three sons
and their wives, Gary and Carla of Raleigh, NC, Doyle and Donna
of Ryan, Jimmy and Lori of Arlington, TX; his two sisters, Sylvia
Ryan of Duncan and Topsy Twyman of Lakeside, CA. He also leaves
behind to carry on the family name his four grandsons, Spense,
Chance, Cody, and Mitch and his three granddaughters, Whitney,
Heather, and Chelsey.
Services will be held on Friday, June 22, 2001 at the Ryan Church
of Christ with Dr. Bob Harrison officiating. Burial will be in
Ryan Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Ryan.
Pallbearers will be Floyd Park, Wayne Harrison, Max Anderson,
Floyd Dale Fuller, Charles Franklin, and Charles Heath.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Good Samaritan
Hospice or the American Lung Cancer Society.
