Oster Lee Bilbrey

Oster Lee Bilbrey passed away October 9, 2002, in a Lawton hospital after a long illness. Mr. Bilbrey was born June 24, 1920, in Park Spring, Texas. He was the fourth of seven children born to Mance and Elma Bilbrey. In 1922, the family moved to Bridgeport, Texas and in 1929, they moved to Oklahoma and settled at Waurika. He grew up in Waurika and attend public school there. He married Edna Mae Welcher in 1944, and they had one son, Larry Lee Bilbrey.

Mr. Bilbrey worked as a truck driver until 1951, and in 1953, he moved to Ft. Worth, Texas and worked for the Armour Packing Company. He married Bernadine Rebecca Gant on December 17, 1973, in Denton, Texas. They made their home in Ft. Worth where he operated a truck repair business. When he retired in 1988, the couple moved to Waurika. Bernadine preceded Oster in death on May 28, 1990.

In 1992, Oster married Lela Holden on July 18, in Cache where the couple made their home. He was a long-time Baptist and was an avid golfer.

Survivors include: his wife, Lela, of the home in Cache; one son - Larry and his wife Tammy Bilbrey of Ft. Worth; two step-daughters - Garvene Wemhaner and her husband David, of Tulsa, OK, and Carolyn Hawthorne and her husband Don of Cache, OK; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Bilbrey were at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 11, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in Waurika with Audie Durrough and R.T. Perry officiating. Burial was in the Waurika Cemetery with Willis C. Worley, Jr. officiating under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika.
