Nora Luella King

Nora Luella King, ninety-three, died March 11, 2005, in Country Club Care Center. She was born July 31, 1911, in Euless, Texas, to Walter F. and Lela Burris Sanderson. At a young age she moved to Waurika, Oklahoma. She embraced Christianity at a young age and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waurika. On September 5, 1931, she and Ray King were united in marriage. They started their married life on the farm south of Waurika. They lived several places in Oklahoma and Texas when Ray worked for Shell Drilling Company. They opened and managed one of the first coin-operated laundries in Oklahoma City in 1959. In 1978, they moved back home to Waurika. Their marriage spanned sixty years until Ray's death November 2, 1991. Luella was active in doll making, gardening, and cooking. All her granddaughters proudly own one of her dolls. Her candy making at Christmas was a work of art. Her cookie jar was always full of Grandma Cookies which no one has been able to duplicate. Luella's love of God and family were evident in her daily life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, two brothers, and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: one daughter - Evelyn and J.D. Green of Sayre, OK; two sons - Vayden and Wanda King of Duncan, OK, and Eldon and Sammye King of Bella Vista, AR; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; four great-great-granchildren; two sisters - Pauline Kennedy and Mabel Frost, both of Waurika, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Those who were fortunate to have known her are richly blessed. Her zeal for life, love for her family and friends and dedication to the Lord will be forever etched in our hearts.
