Mildred Louise Houchins was born February 7, 1928, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Joseph Henry and Cora Lea Cunningham Newton. She passed from this life Monday, February 21, 2005, in Waurika, Oklahoma, at the age of seventy-seven. Mildred and William Don Houchins were united in marriage May 7, 1942, in Temple, Oklahoma. She was a postal clerk in Hastings, and also owned and operated Houchins Grocery in Hastings several years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hastings Church of Christ.
Survivors include: her husband, Don, of the home in Hastings, OK; two daughters - Jeaneane Cook of Hastings, OK, and Ruby Jean Lewis of Brownwood, TX; two brothers - Aulton Augie Newton and his wife Marion, and James Herman Newton and his wife Alice; four grandchildren - B.J. Parkey, Rachelle Sampley, Colt Sampley, and William Saari; three step-grandchildren - Dena Cook Ariel Saari, and William Saari.
Funeral services for Mrs. Houchins were at 1:00 PM, Thursday, February 24, 2005, at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika, Oklahoma, with Jim Stewart officiating. Burial was in the Hastings Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika.
