Maxine McCraw Harrison

Maxine McCraw Harrison was born September 1, 1938, west of Waurika, Oklahoma, the eldest daughter of Vleet E. and Gertrude Smith McCraw. She attended school at Deer Grove. On August 28, 1938, she married J.E. Speck Harrison in Duncan, Oklahoma. They made their home in Waurika. Maxine and Speck worked side by side for many years in cafes and a package store. She also worked at the nutrition site. Mr. Harrison preceded her in death August 25, 1977. Also preceding her in death were one son, James, her parents, Vleet and Gertrude McCraw, one brother, Eudell, and three sisters, Ona Lee James, Ema Rea Wheeler and Peggy McCraw.

Survivors include: two daughters - Gloria and her husband Harry England of Waurika, OK, and Shirley and her husband Richard Lee of Spring, TX; three grandchildren - Darlen and Ronny Wade, and David and Sherri England of Waurika, OK, and Billy Dowdy of New Mexico; eight great-grandchildren - Danielle Duncan of Burkburnett, TX, Whitney and Dillon Wade, Shelby, Davida and J.D. England, all of Waurika, OK, Jack Christopher Dowdy of New Mexico, and Candace Bishop of Tulsa, OK; one sister, Golda and her husband Paul Tracy of Ft Worth, TX; cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; and one special friend, Joe Lane.

Mrs. Harrison baby-sat her great-grandchildren for years. Later, they helped care for her. Maxine had a special bond with her family. She was greatly loved and will be missed by all.

Graveside services for Mrs. Harrison were at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 2, 2005, at the Waurika Cemetery with Bob Blair and Noel Curington officiating. Burial was under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika.
