Mary Esther Crutcher passed from this life Thursday, March 21, 2002, in the Westbrook Nursing Home in Waurika, Oklahoma, at the age of 95. She was born October 26, 1906, to John and Della Dunn in Wise County, Texas, near Bridgeport, the third of seven children. She grew up in Wise County and attended several country schools. The family moved to Oklahoma in a covered wagon in 1920 and settled on a farm west of Sugden in the Riverview community. Mrs. Crutcher completed her education at the Riverview Country School.
On November 1, 1924, Esther and Ernest Crutcher were united in marriage in the Baptist parsonage in Waurika and the couple made their home on a farm in the Riverview community southwest of Waurika. After farming for more than twenty-six year, the family started a trucking business. In 1946 the family moved into Waurika and continued the trucking operation until their retirement in 1975.
Mr. Crutcher preceded her in death on May 8, 1985. Mrs Crutcher was resident of Jefferson County for many years. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Waurika, first joining the Irving Baptist Church in the Irving community and being baptized in the Red River. She was also a member of the quilting club in Waurika.
Surivors include: two sons - M.D. Crutcher of Marlow, OK, and Bob Crutcher of Duncan, OK; twelve grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by: her parents - John and Della Dunn; her husband - Ernest Crutcher; one son - Kenneth Crutcher; two brothers - Claude Dunn and Carlton Dunn; and one sister - Ruth King.
Funeral services for Mrs. Crutcher were at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 25, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in Waurika with Tommy Billings officiating. Burial was in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons.
