Mary E. Cathey, eighty-seven, of Ryan, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2007, in Ryan. Mary was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Spanish Fort, Texas, to James F. and Lily Bouldin. She married Douglas John Cathey south of Waurika in 1941. Mary graduated from Ryan High School and continued to live with her husband in the Ryan area while raising their children, Carolyn Cathey Howard and James Douglas Cathey. She worked as a dental aide with Dr. Frank Wamsley and later served as the city treasurer for the City of Ryan. Mary was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Ryan and was active in the United Methodist Women.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, James F. Bouldin; her mother, Lily (Crownover) Bouldin York; her husband, Douglas John Cathey; her son, James Douglas Cathey; a sister, Maxine (Bouldin) Cain; and a brother, James Bouldin.

Survivors include: her daughter, Carolyn Cathey Howard, of Ryan; a nephew - Si Cain, of Ryan, OK; grandchildren - Brad Howard and his wife, Jean Ann Hudson, of Tulsa, OK, Glenn Murray Howard and his wife Robbin, of Duncan, OK, Scott Cathey and his wife, Jennifer of Waurika, OK, Carol Anne and her husband, Tim Garrett of Duncan, and Shelly and her husband, Guy Mora of Waurika, OK; great-grandchildren - Courtney Howard, Tatum Mora, Elise Howard, Sage Cathey, Tucker Mora, Zane Howard, Evan Howard, Seth Cathey, Lily Garrett, Turner Mora, Slade Cathey, Tallin Mora and Emily Garrett.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cathey were at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 2,2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Ryan with Steve Harshaw officiating. Burial was in the Ryan Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Ryan. Pallbearers were Cal Major, Bruce Scott, Butch Barrett, Terry Johnson, Aaron Johnson, and Jack Savage. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Ryan.
