On Monday, June 18, 2001,
Martha Jayne Watts Roberson, our precious mother and grandmother,
departed this earthly home to rest securely with her heavenly
father.
Services were held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 21, 2001, in Ryan,
Oklahoma, at the First Baptist Church with burial in the Ringgold
Cemetery. Eldon Johnson officiated. Service was under the direction
of Dudley Funeral Home in Ryan. The family received friends at
Dudley Funeral Home in Ryan on Wednesday, June 20 from 6:00 PM
to 8:00 PM.
Martha Jayne was born Monday, March 1, 1915, at Belcherville,
Texas and departed this life at 6:45 PM on Monday, June 18, 2001,
at the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 17 days.
Martha Jayne was the first of seven children born to Lily Mae
Hanks and Bill Watts Sr. She also had a sister Lula Davis Melton
who was four years her senior born to Lily Mae Hanks and Dave
Melton.
On August 28, 1927, at the age of twelve years, she accepted Christ
as her personal Savior and throughout her life stated, "If
I die today, I know I will spend eternity in Heaven."
She is a member of the First Baptist Church in Ryan.
April 3, 1931, Martha Jayne met Roscoe Roberson and they were
married August 7, 1933, in Ringling. Except for a brief period
of time spent in Los Angeles, California in 1941 and 1942, they
made their home in Montague and Jefferson Counties.
Roscoe came from a family of nine boys, with one dying in infancy
so Jayne always boasted that she gained seven brothers whom she
loved dearly.
After twenty-five years of marriage, Roscoe preceded her in death
on November 19, 1958.
Jayne worked approximately twenty-four years in the medical profession
as a laboratory technician, obstetrical nurse, and surgical nurse.
Of the six children, four boys and two girls, that Jayne bore,
she is survived by three.
Survivors include: Weldon and Pam Roberson of Henrietta, Texas,
Linda Nelle and Bill Griffin of Ryan, and William Milton Roberson
of Ryan; ten grandchildren: Roscella Meeks of Phoenix City, Alabama,
Travis Roberson of Lake Kiowa, Texas, Wendi Roberson of Wichita
Falls, Texas, Kayce, Billy Ray and Shane Roberson of Henrietta,
Texas, Priscilla Grice of Waurika, Michael Roberson of Duncan,
Slade Roberson of Ft Worth, Texas, and Monti VanBuren of Kingston;
twelve great-grandchildren, two sisters by marriage - Helen Watts
of Duncan, and LaVoy Roberson of Abilene, Texas; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Those awaiting her Heavenly homecoming will be her husband, Roscoe;
three children; her parents; one brother; six sisters; eight brothers
by marriage; and one granddaughter, Alica Jaynell.
Pallbearers were: DeWayne Roark, Jimmy Edwards, Larry Sewell,
Bobby Lee Durham, Raymon West, and Jerry Poage. Honorary pallbearers
were: Harold Sherrill and Donald Ray Sherrill.
