Martha Fern Zellmer Swift Herring, age 77, passed away in Wichita Falls, Texas on Saturday, February 3, 2001, following a stroke.
Martha was born April 30, 1923, in the town of Huntley, Nebraska, to John August Zellmer and Leora Mae Moore Zellmer. She was united in marriage to Willard James Swift, August 23, 1941 in Norton, Kansas and to M.L. Herring in 1974 and divorced in 1980. She lived in Norton, Kansas; Walden, Colorado; Weskan, Kansas; Emporia, Kansas; Perry, Oklahoma; and Waurika, Oklahoma.
In addition to being a housewife and homemaker, Martha was successful in several other careers. During WWII she was an all-position welder in Portland, Oregan, something of which she was very proud. She optained her LPN license in Emporia, Kansas and PGPN Certification at Baylor University and was a dedicated nurse for many years. She also graduated from the Emporia School of Cosmetology.
