Julia Mae Collins Simmons

Julia Mae Collins Simmons was born August 17, 1914 in near Ryan, Oklahoma in Jefferson County to John and Eulalia Gillogly Collins. Mae passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2009 in Granbury Texas at the age of 95. A third generation Jefferson county Oklahoma resident, she moved with her parents at an early age to the ranch east of Waurika where she was raised. She graduated from Waurika High School in 1932. She married James Clifford Simmons on January 17, 1946 in Laurel, Mississippi. Cliff preceded her in death in 1969. Mae was a homemaker involved with her family consisting of her children William (Bill), Jim and Edna Mae. She joined the First United Methodist Church in Waurika, Oklahoma in 1928 and was a faithful member and worker. She was a member of the United Methodist Women in her younger days and served as President for many years. She also kept the Church nursery, did monthly communions and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class for over 70 years.
Survivors include her sons Bill Simmons of Granbury, Texas, Jim and his wife Connie Simmons of Waurika, Oklahoma and a daughter, Edna Mae and her husband H. T. Holden of Kremlin, Oklahoma. Grandchildren include Lana Moore and her husband Chris, Magen Monzo and her husband Gabe, Tara Gunter and her husband Doug, Christy Sellers and her husband Jay, Cody Simmons and his wife Tracy, Cheyenne Simmons, Shannon Meyer and her husband Marty, and Tim Holden and his wife Allison. She is survived by 12 great-grandchildren including Lily and Ben Tunnell, Ezri Moore, Tyler, Gabi and Gunn Gunter, Liberti and Jaxton Simmons, Charly and Chaney Sellers and Payton and Morgan Meyer. She is also survived by her brother Rex Collins of Lafayette, Louisiana and nephews Gary Collins and his wife Pat, John Collins and his wife Cheryl, Charles Simmons and his wife Donna and nieces Connie Gierhart and her husband Brent and Peggy Osburn.

She was preceded in death by her husband Cliff, her parents John and Eulalia Collins, her sister Edna Palmer Armstrong, her sister-in-law Dorothy Collins and a great grandson Patrick Martin Meyer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Waurika or the charity of your choice in Mae’s memory. Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 2:00PM at Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika with Dr. Trevor Smith officiating. Burial will bein the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday from 9AM-7PM and Tuesday from 9AM-2PM. Family will receive visitors from 1-2PM on Tuesday.
