Lula May (Umholtz) Black

Lula May Black -- "Cindy" "Granny" went to be with her Heavenly Father August 31, 2020. Cindy was born May 1, 1937, in Charleston Arkansas, to James Elmer and Lennia Elmina (Berkley) Umholtz.
Our Mother was known by her friends for her unmatched work ethic, her honesty and kindness. But to her seven children, nineteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren, she was known for her unconditional love and her unwavering support through our many passions and choices. She also showed her love by cooking our favorite meals: beans, cornbread and fried potatoes, or fried chicken and, of course, her sausage gravy and biscuits. For many years we delighted in our favorite birthday cake - Mom's German Chocolate Cake (with a little extra icing left in the bowl!) Her house was always open to any of us needing or wanting a place to stay. She was the warm hug we could always count on. Our mom was "HOME".
Cindy loved working in her yard, mowing the grass herself until last year (because no one could do it like her!) She also loved to garden and sew. She was a woman of many talents. But her favorite moments were spent with her family. Holidays, reunions and birthday celebrations were full, booming, and happy and she loved every moment, just as she loved sitting at her kitchen table visiting with one or two. Family meant everything to her.
Cindy's family includes her children Roger Black, Brenda Roberts and her husband Mike, Sheryl Hoggatt and her husband Larry, Diana Michel and her husband Bill, Rick Black, and Laura Archer. Grandchildren include: Jason, Jenni, Dusty, David, Nikki, Michael, John, Christopher, Travis, Kayla, Zack, Rachel, Ashton, Kye, Keegan, Alex, Abraham, and Athena. Great-grandchildren include: Gage, Preston, Hunter, Hayden, Jobi, Braxton, Nicholas, Christopher, William, Winter, Jackson, Isaac, Tyler, Jordan, Casey, Bailey, Liam, Clara, Robert Jr., and Evan Lee. She is also survived by four siblings: Dorothy Thiessen and her husband Don, Harold Umholtz and his wife Sandy, Aggie Freeman, Earl Umholtz and his wife Alice, and sister-by-love Sharon Umholtz.
Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, her son Darrell Black, a daughter-by-love Josie Black, granddaughter Jaimi, great-grandson Evan, her brothers Leon Umholtz and his wife Birtie, James Umholtz and his wife Sandy, John Umholtz, Tommy Umholtz and his wife Judy and brothers-in-law Bill Freeman and Ron Miller.
