L. G. Hargis
L. G. Hargis, Jr. was born July 21, 1923 in Irving, Oklahoma to Loyd Gaines Hargis, Sr. and Ruby Lee Routt Hargis. He passed from this life Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Jefferson County Hospital in Waurika at the age of ninety.
Mr. Hargis was a 1941 graduate of Irving High School and attended Murray State and Cameron Universities. He served his country as a Signalman 2nd Class in the United States Coast Guard stationed off the coast of Japan in Guam and Okinawa. He and Mary Frances Hargis were married September 9, 1944 in Waurika, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death February 26, 2011. He retired from the United States Post office as a postal clerk. L.G. was a longtime farmer and rancher in Jefferson County. He was a 48 year member of the Beefmaster Breed Association. He was a member of the Breedmaster Breeders United. He was also a charter member of ISA cattle company of San Angelo, Texas and the Foundation Beefmaster Association. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Waurika.
Survivors include his children - Myra Jane Sandner and her husband John, David Hargis, and John G. Hargis and wife Linda, 10 grandchildren, and 3 great grand children and 2 great grand children on the way.
Funeral Service will be Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 11:00AM at the First United Methodist Church in Waurika with Rev. Karen Slater and Rev. John G. Hargis officiating. Burial will be in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home in Waurika. Visitation will be from noon-8PM Monday and 9AM-8PM Tuesday with family receiving visitors from 6-7PM. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Waurika.
