Leslie Edward Stowe
Leslie Edward Stowe was born August 20, 1923, to Leslie Hooper and Edna Mae Stowe, just outside of Waurika, Oklahoma. He went to be with his Lord Friday, January 11, 2013, while living at the Meadowlake Estates Nursing Home in Oklahoma City. Les suffered a stroke in 2006 and soon thereafter became an Alzheimer's patient.
Les was a proud veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. After he finished his hitch in the Army he met and married Martha Dell Rush from Byers, Texas. That marriage lasted sixty-three years, right up to the time Martha passed away in December of 2009.
This union produced three sons, Rusty, who lives with his wife Rita in Oklahoma City, Dick, who lives with his wife Karen in Tahlequah, and Roger, who lives with his wife Lisa in Osceola, Nebraska. Les was the proud grandfather to Ryan, Robin, Kari, Jessika, Summer, Megan and Cody. He was PawPaw to his eleven great-grandchildren.
Waurika was home for the Stowe family. Les and Martha moved back to Waurika in 1966, to take over the family-owned and operated Stowe's Motel. When they closed the motel Les and Martha re-opened the Ryan Lumber Center in Ryan, Oklahoma. They ran this business as a couple for more than twenty years.
Les is to be remembered as a man who never met a stranger. His quick wit and alluring personality enabled him to be a friend to everyone.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 14, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Waurika with Rev. Jeff McLemore and Rev. Rusty Stowe officiating. Burial will be in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday from 1:00 to 6:00 PM.
