Lena Moore was born September 30, 1914, in Denison, Texas, to John Metcalf and Virginia Cain Moore. She was the fifth of eight children. The family moved to Oklahoma from Denison in 1924, and settled in Waurika. She grew up in Waurika and graduated from Waurika High School in 1933. She attended Metropolitan Business College in Dallas. She worked in the County Agent Home demonstration office for nine years in Waurika. In 1945, she moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and was secretary for the editor of the Cattlemans Magazine for twenty years. She was the secretary for an insurance agency for five years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Past Worthy Matron. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waurika.
Lena passed from this life Monday, October 24, 2005, in Waurika at the age of ninety-one.
Survivors include: three sisters - Margaret Ann Helton, Virginia Houchins and Jean M. Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father and two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services for Ms. Moore were at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church in Waurika with Mike Bates and Trevor Smith officiating. Burial was in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in Waurika.
