John Malcom Mathews was born September 24, 1919, in Waurika, Oklahoma, to Leroy and Birtha Mae Biddle Mathews. He passed from this life Tuesday, May 8, 2007, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of eighty-seven. He was raised in Waurika. He resided in Oklahoma City for sixty years. He was a farmer and retired produce warehouse checker/selector with Allied Produce. He also served his country in WWII in the United States Army. He was a member of Teamsters Union. He and Jacqueline Marie Stone were married June 11, 1951, in Gainesville, Texas. She preceded him in death in November 2003.
Survivors include: Mark Conrad Bumgarner and his wife Angela, two daughters - Gloria Sue Taylor, and Quintella Lavon Davenport and her husband James; Eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren three brothers John Truman Mathews and Jerry Lee Mathews both of Heavner, OK, and Buster Smith of Jenks, OK; and one sister Esta Timberlake of Waurika, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, three brothers, and stepson Joe Harold Loudon.
Funeral services for Mr. Mathews were at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 12, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Waurika with Rev. James Davenport officiating. Burial was in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home in Waurika. Visitation was Thursday 9-5PM, Friday 9-6PM and Saturday 11-1PM.
