Joe M. Smith was born December 9, 1907, in Oklahoma, to Robert L. and Emma Miller Smith. Joe passed from this life Sunday, October 12, 2003, at the Texhoma Christian Care Center in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the age of ninety-five. He was a farmer and custodian at Midwestern State University and Wichita Falls ISD. He was a member of the Fairway Baptist Church. He and Maggie Ledford were united in marriage on October 29, 1938, in Oklahoma. They made their home in Wichita Falls since 1960.

Survivors include: his wife - Maggie, of Wichita Falls, TX; one daughter - Jolene and her husband Stan West of Wichita Falls, TX; two grandsons - Jeff K. West of Cedar Park, TX, and Scott S. and his wife Danna West of Wichita Falls, TX; and one great-grandson - Matthew West of Wichita Falls, TX.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and ten brothers and sisters.

Graveside services for Joe were at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at the Waurika, Oklahoma Cemetery with Rev. Ken Coleman officiating. Burial was under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika.
