Jimmy Dale Cockrell

Following a lengthy illness, Jimmy Cockrell, 62, of Waurika, Oklahoma, passed from this life into the presence of the Lord. Jimmy was born September 15, 1957 to Sammy and Kay Cockrell in Duncan, Oklahoma. He served in the United States Army and the Oklahoma National Guard, earning the Kuwait Liberation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, with two Bronze Stars and a Sharpshooter Badge with Auto Rifle Bar.
Jimmy was an over-the-road professional truck driver for thirty years. After working in household for North American Van Lines he joined JB Hunt Transport, where he worked for more than seventeen years. At JB Hunt he earned an Outstanding Driver Award for more than two million miles of accident-free driving. He was awarded the Trainer of the Year and Trainer of the Quarter several times. Jimmy was a member of the American Legion for twenty-five years.
Jimmy is survived by: his wife Erlinda (Linda) Peralta of Dallas, TX; three children - Chris Cockrell of Morrelton, Arkansas, LaLaine Peralta and her husband Kwame of Dallas, TX, and Lloyd Peralta of Lawton, OK; one grandchild Kait Lorraine Peralta of Dallas, TX, whom he thought was the most beautiful child God ever fashioned; three sisters - Sandra Cockrell of Duncan, OK, Carole Cockrell of Waurika, OK, and Linda Cockrell of the home in Waurika, OK; his aunt Melba June Waldrop of Wichita Falls, TX; his beloved niece Kay Shanda Cockrell; three nephews - Arnold Dowdy, of New York, Sammy Dowdy of Forney, TX, and David Applegate of Covington, KY; cousins - Kathy Jones of Electra, TX, Dr. Ron Waldrop of Mandeville, LA, Jack Waldrop of Cleburn, TX, and Debra Riley of Pine Bluff, AR; great niece and nephews - Katie and Alex Applegate of Covington, KY, Samuel and Connor Dowdy of Forney, TX, Riley Cronin of Waurika, OK, and his favorite nephew and little buddy Carson Cronin, also of Waurika, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Lt. Col. Elroy M. Cockrell, an uncle and friend whom he loved and admired. The family wishes to thank Waurika EMT15. Waurika Fire Department and the Waurika Police Department. They did their very best and we are grateful.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to Noon, Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Addington Cemetery in Addington, Oklahoma under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika.
