Jewel Mae Cooper Sutton

Jewel Mae Cooper Sutton passed from this life Thursday, January 1, 2004, in the Meridian Nursing Home in Comanche, Oklahoma, at the age of eighty-six. Jewell was born the oldest of six children to David Isaac and Mattie Lee Cooper in Roosevelt, Oklahoma, on May 28, 1917. She was a member of Loco First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and training union classes. Jewell spent most of her childhood in Marlow, Oklahoma, and graduated from Marlow High School in 1935. She earned a degree in Elementary Education from Central State College in Edmund, Oklahoma in 1942. On June 1, 1946, Jewell married Bonnie Joe Sutton in Comanche, Oklahoma, making their home in Loco. They had two children, a daughter and a son. Jewell taught elementary school for twenty years - teaching at Mt. Summit (near Guthrie, Oklahoma), Stage Stand (northwest of Duncan, Oklahoma), Loco and Velma schools.

Survivors include: one son - Ron and his Wife Kathy Sutton of Loco, OK; one daughter - Barbara and her husband Robert Johnson of Loco;three grandchildren - Cassie Sutton Berthold and her husband Gregg of Lawton, OK, Zac Johnson of Shawnee, OK, and Amelia Johnson Minor and her husband John of Loco, OK; two sisters - Glennace Cooper Bolton and her husband Ernest of Marlow, OK, and Ruth Cooper Bolton of Marlow, OK; two brothers - Lloyd Cooper of Marlow OK, and Frank Cooper of Tulsa, OK; one brother-in-law - Edd and his wife Betty of Loco, OK; two sisters-in-law - Laura Sutton of Duncan, OK, and Juanita Sutton of Velma, OK; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in July, 2002, her parents, and her brother Elmer.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sutton were at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 5, 2004, at the Loco Baptist Church with J.C. Neal and Randy Southerland officiating. Burial was in the Loco Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Comanche.
