Jerry Norman Shelton

Jerry Norman Shelton, 83, of Waurika, Oklahoma, passed from this life June 14, 2017. He was born July 20, 1933, in Ryan, Oklahoma, to Jim and Ludie (Callaham) Shelton.
Jerry graduated in 1951 from Ryan High School. Jerry and the love of his life Thyrzia were married in Gaineville, Texas on October 27, 1954. He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Puerto Rico. He was discharged May 5, 1956. They started their career with Wright's Grocery in Ryan in 1956. In 1966, they purchased Park Grocery in Waurika. They owned and operated Shelton's Grocery for more than forty-three years. When they retired in 1999, he continued his hard work ethic on his ranch where he loved to feed cattle and farming. He and his son became partners where they worked side by side 'til the end. Jerry loved to be working and being outside, loved to help anyone and everyone, and was very involved in his community and church. He loved supporting his country, because his brother was killed in WW2. He never met a stranger and he didn't know you he would within minutes. He enjoyed helping local schools and being a Godly role model for young people.
He was preceded in death by his wife Thyrzia of forty-nine years, his parents Jim and Ludie Shelton, his siblings Weldon, Dewey, Raymond, and Mable, and several close friends.
He leaves behind: daughter Connie and her husband Guy Dillon of Ryan, OK; son James Earl Montgomery and his wife Teresa of Waurika, OK; grandkids—Chuck and Prescilla Barrett, Kelly and John Pritchett, Kallie and Kyle McCord; and great-grandkids—Ben, Bailey and Cal.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Waurika with Adam Brinson, David Hale and Curtis Plant officiating. Burial will follow in the Ryan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Ryan Cemetery c/o the City of Ryan, PO Box 194, Ryan, Oklahoma 73565.
