Joy Jean Webb Snyder

Joy Jean (Webb) Snyder Jean, 92, completed her long journey home Friday, August 23, 2013. A celebration will be held at Addington First Baptist Church Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jason Ebenhack and Pastor Billy Morgan officiating and under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Viewing will be Sunday from 1-6PM and Monday from 9AM-8PM. There will be no cemetery service. Jean's last request was, "please, no flowers. Children are God's special flowers and any remembrances should benefit them." Donations to Addington First Baptist Youth fund or the Ronald McDonald house would be appreciated."
Joy Jean Webb was born October 25, 1920 to Roy and Ina Webb in Addington. She attended Addington Elementary, graduated from Bowie High School and the old Duncan Business School . She worked at the tag agency in Waurika, then she moved to Oklahoma City and worked at Zales Credit Department. She met the love of her life, Kenneth J. Snyder in Oklahoma City, and they were married in 1943. They moved to Duncan in 1947 and, later, to San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Snyder preceded her in death in San Antonio in 1959. Jean moved, with their 3 children, to Duncan , where she lived until 1985 when she moved to Addington. Jean worked at Sudberry's and then taught a kindergarten class at her home. Later, she became a "daytime nanny". She was always involved in her children's school activities and her favorite fun time was the old fashion PTA carnival, when one block of Main Street would be blocked for doll walks, cake walks, etc. She was an avid sports fan from little league, baseball, and football to fast and slow pitch softball. She loved the Sooners and good or bad, her Dallas Cowboys. She loved animals of all kinds and raised everything from squirrels, raccoons, and other species, to many dogs and cats. She watched eagerly for the first birds and hummingbirds of the season. Every different blade of grass, flower, tree, or insect was a thrill for her and everyday she would look outside and ask, "Lord, what wonderful new gift have you brought today?" Jean's life was spent both with and for children. She always managed to pay a compliment to any child with whom she came in contact, to make them feel good about themselves. She also said, "I love you" when she knew it wouldn't upset a parent. She shed many tears and said many prayers for the abused, neglected, abandoned and ill children. Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church at Addington. She taught children's Sunday school in Addington, Gatlin Baptist, Immanuel Baptist of Duncan, and Manor Baptist in San Antonio. She always loved her church because "it kept a crazy person like me grounded… somewhat." Through all the tragedy and losses in her life, she kept the spirit of great joy and content. She said, "God knows what he is doing so I don't question what comes to me. I let him take care of it."
