Catherine Jane Chambers
Catherine Jane Chambers was born November 24, 1919 at home in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Lee Vester and Mary Alice Phillips Simpson. She passed from this life Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Jefferson County Hospital at the age of 94.
She attended and graduated from Okmulgee High School. She attended college at Okmulgee East Central State College in Ada and graduated from Oklahoma University. She taught school at Irving, Waurika Jr. High and High School, and Ryan Grade School, Jr. High, and High school. She also was a Title 1 teacher. She taught for 27 years. On August 13, 1943 she married the love of her life George Everett Chambers. To this union four children were born Larry Van, Dana Lynn, Julie Ann, and Gary Lee. Jane was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was very involved in the United Methodist Church in Ryan where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed being a part of the GFWC Sorosis Club in Waurika, a Pink Lady for the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary, the Ryan Extension Club, Red Hat Ladies, and the Red River Chorus Productions. She loved to sewing, painting, weaving, and doing crafts. She also loved to play golf and travel.
She is survived by her children - Larry Chambers, Dana Major and husband Cal, Julie Ann Goodson, and Gary Lee Chambers, sister - Mary Gene Privett, grandchildren - John Chambers, Sam and Jacobi Florence, Glen and Sherry Major, Brian and Kasey Major, Tony and Lisa Major Fleetwood, and Demetrius and Kristi Goodson, great grand children - Cali, Austin, and Landry Major, Hayden, Kason and Kamryn Major, Dillon and Miles Ellis, Major Fleetwood, Sadie and C.J. White, and Matthew Chambers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George in 1988, and brothers Jack and Sam.
Funeral Service will be Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 2:00PM, at the United Methodist Church in Ryan with Rev. Ed Harwood officiating. Burial will be in the Ryan Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home in Waurika. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00AM to 6:00 PM and Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in Ryan.
