James Austin Smith was born October 6, 1940, in Ryan, Oklahoma, to Clifford Austin Smith and Dollly Alsup Smith. Mr. Smith passed from this life Saturday, October 9, 2004, at his home in Terral, Oklahoma, at the age of sixty-four. He graduated from the University Oklahoma. He worked for American General Insurance in Houston Texas.

Survivors include: one sister, Nancy Smith Glasscodk and her husband Ivan; one niece and her family, Kellye Spruill Earhart and her husband Steve and their children Jessica and Austin; one nephew and his family, James Spruill and his children, Heather, Jennifer, Christopher, and Hunter Spruill, and Amber Reid; one aunt, Tennie Mundy; cousins, Sheila and David Bussey and their daughter Kaci; and many more

A memorial service for Mr. Smith was held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in Terral with Rev. Charles Parker officiating.
