James L. Jack Williamson

James L. (Jack) Williamson was born February 5, 1922 in Waurika, Oklahoma to Frank Davis and Callie ( Berry) Williamson. He passed from this life after a brief illness on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in Wichita Falls, TX at the age of eighty-seven. After graduating from Waurika High School, he joined the United States Navy where he served his country for four years during World War II. After completion of his service, he attended the University of Central Oklahoma and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in chemistry. He worked in pharmaceutical sales and research with Lederle Laboratories for thirty nine years. Jack and Nancy Jane Lewis were married June 30, 1951 in Waurika, Oklahoma. They made their home in Fort Worth, Texas, and retired and moved back to Waurika in 1987 to be closer to family and manage the family farms. Jack was an active member of the First Baptist Church where he served as deacon, taught Sunday school classes and served on a variety of committees. He had a passion for serving his community and was involved in Lion’s Club, Depot Committee, Housing Authority and the Waurika Seniors Citizens Center. He loved his family, friends, hard work, the outdoors and his Black Angus cattle.

Jack is survived by his wife, Jane of Waurika, daughters Diane deTurck and husband David of Bedford, Texas; Vicki Hutto of Plano, Texas; and Janet Williamson and Michael Reznikoff of Fort Worth, Texas as well as two grand daughters Mandy deTurck of Dallas, TX and Jamie deTurck of Bedford, TX. His sister Frankie and husband OW McKenzie reside in Wichita Falls, TX; he also has many beloved nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by two brothers and two sisters; Leonard White, Edna Wood, Ruth Wood and FD Williamson.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 15, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Waurika with Reverend Jeff McLemore officiating. Burial will be in the Waurika cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Family will receive visitors from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday evening. Memorials in honor of Jack Williamson may be made to the Waurika Depot, Senior Citizens of Waurika or the First Baptist Church.
