Irene L. Roberts, ninety-four, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2007, in the Ryan Nursing Home. She was born December 1, 1912, in Rule, Texas. She and W.B. Billy Roberts were married in 1938. They bought their place in Grady in 1959, and she lived there until January 2006, when she went to the nursing home in Ryan. She was the Postmaster in Grady for twenty-three years. She will always be remembered by those who ate at the Ryan Senior Citizens Center for her broccoli cornbread, German chew bread and her wonderful cobblers.
Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her mother and father, three sisters and one brother. Her husband of forty-three years passed away in January of 1981, and a step-daughter, Velma Lee Sims in November 2002.
Survivors include: one son - Charles Roberts and his wife Diane of Burkburnett, Texas; four granddaughters - Nancy and her husband Mickey Worthan, Brenda and her husband Kenneth Bruce, Leighann and her husband Ron Sample, and Mary and her husband Bill Sterba; three nieces- Francie Gage, Nancy Hayes, and Ramona McGary; thirteen great grandchildren; numerous great -great grandchildren; and many friends.
Graveside services for Mrs. Roberts were at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 4, 2007, at the Grady Cemetery with Rev. Clarence Mize officiating. Services were under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Ryan.
