Iona Fern Turner

Iona Fern Turner was born May 4, 1938 in Fleetwood, Oklahoma to William Grover Butler and Mary Gertrude (McDougle) Butler. She passed from this life Sunday, March 21, 2021 in Wichita Falls, Texas at the age of 82. Fern and Joe Turner were married November 23,1955 in Ryan, Oklahoma.
Fern worked for Dr. Heflin in Ryan. She worked for Ryan Public School as a teachers aide, elementary principal's secretary, and then high school Principal's secretary in 1998. She retired from the Ryan Public School system in 2008 after 31 years.
She enjoyed "digging in the dirt" and working in her yard and especially in her flower beds. Earlier in life she enjoyed sewing. She made a lot of her children's clothing. Later in life she oenjoyed sitting on her porch sipping her coffee and listening to the birds chirping and looking at her flowers. She was a member of the Ryan Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband Joe of the home, her children; Becky Martini and David Turner and his wife Carla, three grandchildren; Tausha Nickelberry and her husband Ty, Devon Jones, and Jada Jones, four great grandchildren, Javon Modester, Sydney Nickelberry, Olivia Nickelberry, and Lincoln Elliott, several nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter- Vicki Jones and siblings- Evelyn, Midge, Chester "Check", Forrest "Hooge", Oleta, Maxine "Mickey".
Memorial service will be Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 1:30PM at the Ryan Church of Christ. with David Wingfield officiating. Memorials may be made to the Church of Christ in Ryan or charity of choice.
