Hugh Eugene "Junior" Settlemires
Hugh Eugene "Junior" Settlemires, 87, of Waurika, Oklahoma, passed from this life September 30, 2016, in Waurika, Oklahoma. He was born July 28, 1929, in Waurika, Oklahoma to Hugh Roosevelt and Velva Inez (Barnett) Settlemires. He was a farmer and rancher, drove a cattle truck, drove a truck for Halliburton, and was an auctioneer in Wichita Falls for many years. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea. He was married to Betty Jo Greer on July 2, 1945. She passed away June 8, 2006. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waurika for many years. He really enjoyed drinking coffee at JW's Travel Stop in Waurika.
Hugh was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents Hugh and Velva Settlemires, his son-in-law Tony Stewart, and his grandson-in-law Rick Owens.
Survivors include: his daughter Cathy Stewart of Waurika, OK; his granddaughter Catonya Owens of Waurika, OK; his great-granddaughter Hannah Owens of Waurika, OK; and his foster daughter Cynthia Dowdy of Waurika, OK.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at the Cross Brand Cowboy Church in Waurika with Mike Bates officiating. Pallbearers will be Brian Richardson, Mical Delaney, Homer Greer, Brian Showalter, Derrick Durbin, and Donnie McKelroy. Honorary pallbearers will be Haskell Berserse, Jerry Wallace, Junior Robertson, David Herron, and David Heron. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.dudleyfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Puppy Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 1516, Celina, TX 75009 (www.puppyrescuemission.com), a nonprofit organization which locates war zone pets and reunites them with their military "adopters" back home.
