Helen Irene "Salley" Richardson
Helen Irene "Salley" Richardson was called home to be with her Lord Thursday, June 25, 2015. She was born in Tuttle, Oklahoma August 11, 1933, the fourth of fifteen children, to George and Zelma Salley.
Helen was in Junior High School when the family moved to Waurika. She was voted Eagle Queen her senior year, 1952. During her high school years, she worked the concession at the Empress Theatre when she met Jim Richardson who she would marry October 5, 1952.
The couple lived in Lawton where Helen worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone. Moving to Oklahoma City, she started her family and was a full-time mother of four until they moved to Frederick, and she once again worked for the telephone company.
It was in Frederick, in her early 30's, that her life was to change forever. As a devoted Christian, her commitment to the Lord led to Jim's decision to obey the gospel and become a minister. Helen was the ultimate preacher's wife, working tirelessly beside Jim in all areas of the work of the church. She was a member of the Waurika Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, a son, Michael, her parents George and Zelma Salley, one brother G.W. Salley, and two sisters Virginia and LaDonna.
She leaves behind two sons Skip and his wife Sonya of Quanah and Rick and his wife Susan of Vernon, one daughter Debra and her husband John Adams of Waurika, five grandchildren Michael Richardson, Robin and her husband Chris Casarez, all of Vernon, Julie and her husband Jeff Gresham, Jordan and her husband Clay Conley, all of Quanah, and Josh Griffin of Wichita Falls, TX, four great-grandchildren Christopher Casarez, Kaleb and Arowen Griffin, and Ella Belle Conley.
She is also survived by: two brothers Glen of Gepp, AR and Kenneth of Ft Smith, AR, and nine sisters Violet Swafford of Agra, OK, Joyce Adams of Keifer, OK, Sherry Hadley of Santa Fe, TX, Esther Welch of Las Cruces, NM, Sue Alston of Greenwood, AR, Margie Roe and JoAnn Frye, both of Cushing, OK, Gloria Collard of Tulsa, OK, and Linda Pinkerton of Norman, OK. and her Richardson family: Harold and Lynette Richardson, Dewey and Ann Richardson, and Shirley Cephus, all of Waurika, and Jeanne and Cletus Gower of Temple. Numerous nieces and nephews will miss her hugs and exemplary example she was to them.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 27, at the Waurika Church of Christ with Noel Curington officiating. Burial will be in the Sugden Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be nephews: Sonny Richardson, Chuck Richardson, Roger Davis, Kendrick Davis, Steve Gibson, and Spence Reynolds. Visitation will be from Noon to 8:00 PM Friday at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika. Memorial contributions may be made to the Waurika Church of Christ.
