Hazel Fern Marcus was born October 22, 1908, in Petersburg, Oklahoma, to James Louis and Annie Lee Haggard Simons. Hazel passed from this life Friday, December 26, 2003, at the Westbrook Nursing Home in Waurika, Oklahoma, at the age of ninety-five. Hazel and Charles Andrew Marcus were married September 9, 1934, in Waurika, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death March 1, 1949. She lived and worked in Vinita, Oklahoma until her retirement in 1980, when she move to Waurika to be near her sister, Lois Simons Griffin.

Surivors include: her nephew James Griffin and his wife June, of Claypool, OK; two great-nephews - Jimmy Griffin and his wife Carla, of Duncan, OK, and Johnny Griffin and his wife Rinda, of Waurika, OK; and four great-great nieces and nephews - Ali Giffin Maldonado of Puerto Rico, Jorinda Griffin of Ada, OK, Gil Griffin of Waurika, OK, and Jared Griffin of Duncan, OK.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister.

Graveside services were held for Mrs. Marcus at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 29, 2003, at the Waurika Cemetery with Rev. Reed Montgomery officiating. Burial was in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika.
