Harold Stout, M.D.
Harold Stout, M.D., 80, passed from this life August 5, 2014, in Norman Oklahoma. He was born February 15, 1934, in Duncan, Oklahoma to Loy Harold and Mae Harmon Stout. He graduated from Waurika High School in 1952. He participated in football, basketball, ran track, and played in the band. In 1956, Harold graduated from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, with a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in pre-med studies. While at Westminster, he was listed in "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities", 1955-56 edition, was president of the following organizations: Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Fulton, Mo., the student body council, Phi Rho Epsilon medical fraternity, and was a member of the Westminister Music Club.
In 1960, Harold graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with an M.D. degree. He followed this with a family practice internship at University of Oklahoma hospitals. In 1962, he started family practice in Waurika, Oklahoma, and in November of 1977 until April of 1984 he practiced at Dycus Camp Clinic in Moore, Oklahoma. He returned to Waurika and retired in January of 2004 after 42 years of medical practice. Harold also served as chief medical examiner for Jefferson County, was on the board of the emergency medical services and was a diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice from 1998 to 2005.
Harold was a member of the American Medical Association, a life member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and a life member of the Oklahoma State Medical Association. Together with his sister, Nan Stout, he owned Waurika Hospital and was chief of medical staff at Jefferson County Hospital. He was a board member of Waurika/Jefferson County Physician Recruitment Association, and a member of Waurika/Jefferson County Emergency Medical Board. He served as a member of the Waurika City Council, president of the Waurika School Board, member of the Oklahoma State School Boards Association, and was actively involved in the Waurika Rattlesnake Hunt. Further, he served as a director of the Waurika Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the Waurika High School Alumni Association, and was a life member of the University of Oklahoma Alumni Association.
His hobbies included fishing, bird hunting, deer hunting, Alaska bear hunting, ballroom dancing, singing, theater and movies, and OU football. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waurika. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include: his children - Harold "Hal" Paul Stout and his wife Sherri of Norman, John Hammons Stout and his wife Yavonna of Norman, and Susan Renee Howard of Norman; his grandchildren - Brittyn Howard. Barrett Howard, Brooke Stout, and Connor Stout; and his sister Loyce Nan Stout.
Funeral services for Dr. Stout will be at 2:30 PM Friday, August 8, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Waurika with Rev. Karen Slater officiating. Burial will be at the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Visitation will be Thursday from 9AM - 8PM at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika. Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Curtis ,Dr. Joe Bauscher, Dale Bates and Pryor Waid. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson County Hospital in Waurika, OK, or First United Methodist Church in Waurika.
