Golda E. Becker

Golda E. Becker was born September 9, 1914, near Hastings, Oklahoma, to pioneer Jefferson County residents, V.G. and Laura Mitchell. She attended school in Hastings, where she graduated in 1933. Mrs. Becker attended Central State Teachers College, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in 1938. She taught school in Addington, Ringling, and Waurika, Oklahoma, before retiring in 1974.

On June 1, 1948, Gola married William H. Becker, a Rock Island Railroad employee and they established their home in Waurika where she lived until moving to Irving, Texas in 1998. Mrs. Becker passed away November 8, 2002, in a Dallas hospital. Her husband precedes her in death.

Mrs. Becker was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waurika, Oklahoma, where she held offices throughout the years, church clerk, Sunday school teacher, and president of the Women's Missionary Union. She was a member of the Oklahoma Education Association, National Education Association and Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include: two nieces - Gerry Armstrong of Irving, TX, and Martha Mitchell of Wichita Falls, TX; and six nephews - Larry Lyon of Irving, TX, David Mitchell of DeSoro, TX, Glen Mitchell of Bowie, TX, Carlton and Dennis Wayne Mitchell, both of Comanche, OK, and Aaron Mitchell of Carrollton, TX.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mitchell were at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 12, 2002, at the Dudley Funeral Home in Waurika, Oklahoma with Audie Durrough officiating. Burial was in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika.
