Gill Bond passed away Saturday, January 18, 2003, in the Ryan Nursing Home at the age of eighty-four. He was born September 8, 1918, at the old Red River crossing, on the south side, in Texas. Gill grew up in the Nocona, Fleetwood and Waurika communities. He lived most of his life between Ryan and Terral, Oklahoma. He attended schools in Fleetwood, Terral and Ryan, before graduating from Union Valley. After graduation from high school, Gill attended business school in Oklahoma City. He returned to Ryan to operate a grocery store. He spent many years on the family farm and ranch between Terral and Ryan.
Gill was a member of the First Methodist Church in Ryan, a charter member of the Ryan Lions Club, a member of the Ryan Masonic Lodge for over fifty years, and served as a director on the Jefferson County Conservation District Board from 1961 until 1989.
Gill's father passed away in June of 1972, and he lost his mother in August of 1973.
Survivors include: five cousins - Lucian Salmon of Sweetwater, TX, Mildred Mills of Waco, TX, Betty Dunlap of Waco, TX, Marguerite Dorman of The Woodlands, TX, and Joanna Easter of Graham, TX.
He is also survived by his best friend - Jim Painter Lancaster, of Ryan, OK.
Funeral services for Gill were at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at the Ryan United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Harshaw officiating. Burial was in the Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Ryan.
