Gertrude Smith Evans was born September 27, 1907, in Marietta, Oklahoma, to Walter and Alice Crenshaw Smith. Gertrude passed from this life Monday, February 7, 2005, in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the age of ninety-seven. She and Robert Evans were married in Waurika, Oklahoma, in 1927. He preceded her in death in 1993. They were from the Ryan and Terral communities in Oklahoma for many years before moving to Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1993.

Survivors include: two daughters - June Carroll of Wichita Falls, TX, and Bobby Patterson and her husband, Dr. C.C. Patterson of Odessa, Texas; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of sixty-six years, and twelve brothers and sisters.

Graveside services for Mrs. Evans were at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 10, 2005, at the Ryan Cemetery with Rev. Charles Parker officiating. Burial was under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Ryan.
